Function of job

Full-stack development of tools for an exciting new Maltese cyber-security start-up, including building a cyber incident exercise platform, a training platform, and automation and data analytics tools.

Competence required

Some coding experience, and an understanding of the development lifecycle would be helpful, but training is available for the right person.

Person profile required

Someone who learns fast, works well with others, and fits well into a small but growing start-up. There is scope to advance to team lead, and even Head of Engineering, for the right person, but producing good quality, well-tested code is essential. Someone with a great attitude, who wants to learn and grow with the company, may be a better fit than someone who ‘knows it all’ already. The languages and infrastructure in use are likely to be React, Go, Linux, AWS, rather than the Microsoft dev eco-system. A technical or engineering degree would be an advantage.

Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time salary, level dependent upon prior experience
  • Lots of on-the-job training, with the opportunity to increase salary as responsibilities increase; help working towards Chartered Engineer, if needed
  • Working in a family-friendly start-up, that respects both team-work and personal diversity

Location

Regular attendance at the office will be required, but some (discretionary) remote working will be fine, as long as this helps us build a better team, better products, and deliver better value to our customers.

Company profile – CyberFish Ltd

CyberFish helps companies respond better to cyber attacks by training their incident responders and senior leaderships before the crises happen.

We do that by simulating a cyber intrusion incident, observing the team as they struggle with the challenges it presents, and then helping them improve their team work and decision-making under stress, through training and analytical feedback.

The current, 3rd-party, platform we use for this has some limits that constrain our ability to help, so we’ve set up a Maltese company that will build and manage a platform of our own, with all the telemetry and controls we need.

The engineering platform and tools will support our Social Scientists in their observations, feedback, and training by making use of modern AI, ML, and automation techniques. This will involve a range of research, development, test, and operational systems, running in Cloud technology such as containers.

The company is owned and run by Berta and John. Berta is our Managing Director. As well as driving the growth of the company, she leads on the Behavioural Science side. John, our Technical Director, is building and managing the engineering team, to provide the Observers and Researchers with the best tools possible.

We have a strong set of corporate values, around fairness, honesty, and transparency, as well as putting the customer first.

CyberFish (UK) was selected by the National Cyber Security Centre to be part of their start-up accelerator, because we provide a unique combination of people-based and technology-based cyber security support.

CyberFish (MT) is being supported in its establishment and growth by Malta Enterprise, which provides financial support and advice to cutting-edge start-ups, and helps us to build high-value engineering and research jobs in Malta.

Next steps

If all of that sounds attractive, and you’d like to be part of our team, then please contact Berta at bps@thecyberfish.com with a short personal profile, telling us a bit about you and why you’d like to work with us.

Candidates who sound like they might be a good fit will be invited to complete a practical challenge, working with CyberFish staff, to assess their technical skills and team-working.
