It was a real pleasure to have a strong presence at the Delta 2019 summit with three stands. At the DELTA stand MCAST was showcasing its research with a presence from the Information & Communication Technology and from the Engineering & Transport institutes. Several projects and publications were also showcased.
Two other stands were set up by MCAST at Playcon, Malta’s first Game Development and Esports Expo. Students from the Information & Communication Technology and Creative Arts Institutes exhibited their work and gave visitors a taste of their authentic learning experiences. Moreover, students from both institutes took part in the GameJam, a games development competition, where aspiring multimedia software developers and artists had to design and develop an original, fully functional game from scratch in just 48 hours! Six teams took part in the competition, with students from MCAST placing in the first three places. We congratulate all students for their achievement.
A group of 5 students from the institute of ICT also showcased a functional robot that they built and designed for the First Global competition. First Global is an international robotics competition with its main aims being to raise awareness on ocean pollution and inspire the next generation to become changemakers in their communities. This year the event will be held in Dubai with over 170 countries participating. In general, each participating country is asked to build a robot that should able to collect waste (signified by balls of various sizes) and transfer to specific barges. Once the teams complete this task, they are expected to dock their robot to specific bars. During the past 3 months the students have demonstrated their skills by designing and developing the robot that is able to handle the requested tasks. We would like to congratulate the whole team and wish them a successful journey ahead!
