The recent initiative titled Let’s Talk Digital Skills has come to a close and it has proven to be a remarkable success. Held at the MCAST Resource Center (MRC) Auditorium between the 24th and 27th of November, the series of talks attracted strong interest from both staff and students across the Institutes and beyond. Each session explored an important area within the digital domain, and the engagement throughout the week clearly showed how relevant these topics are to our community.

The first session focused on cybersecurity in the age of social media and examined how individuals can better protect their digital lives. This opening talk generated an encouraging level of discussion and set the tone for the remainder of the week. The following day offered an introduction to artificial intelligence and machine learning. This session presented an accessible entry point into a field that continues to shape modern industries, and it was particularly well received by attendees who were new to the subject.

The third session explored the power of coding as a tool for positive impact and provided guidance on building a first app. Many participants commented that it was both motivating and practical. The final talk examined the darker side of the web and offered valuable insights into understanding and preventing cybercrime. This topic drew a full audience and closed the week with a thoughtful and reflective atmosphere.

Across all four sessions the level of engagement was very encouraging. It was clear that the initiative succeeded in sparking curiosity, strengthening digital awareness and promoting informed conversations about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

This initiative was fully funded by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA). The MCAST Institute of ICT supported the event and contributed to its success by helping ensure that the content delivered was relevant, accessible and of a high standard.

Let’s Talk Digital Skills has demonstrated the strong appetite within our community for continued learning in the digital sphere. The very positive feedback received throughout the week is greatly appreciated and motivates us to continue developing similar initiatives in the future.
