In line with MCAST’s strategy, the Institute of ICT works very closely with industry to provide hands-on training to students in order to equip them with the necessary skills for today’s and future economic demands. For the past three years the ICT Institute, has also contributed to society by working for NGOs and other organisations through the creation of bespoke software applications, websites and system support. These projects give students opportunities to put into practice what they have learned while providing tools and mechanisms to the organisations to ameliorate their work practices and services provided. The Institute would like to thank the following organisations for believing in the students and providing opportunities for their advancement, namely 12th May Band Club, Agara Foundation, Caritas Malta, Conservatorio Vincenzo Bugeja, Dar Merhba Bik, Father Rights Movement, Guggen Musik Band, Hospice Malta, Malta Enterprise – Milan EXPO, Malta Private Tours, MAPSSS, MCAST Chaplaincy, Mtarfa Drama Group, Friends of Cottonera, Pets and Vets, Qrendi Local Council. St Vincent de Paul and Teaching Soft Skills.
Today MCAST ICT Level 3 student Rositisav Dascal presented a website that he created and designed for PaintMalta. This new company has been set up to promote art and support cultural heritage within the Cottonera area. The co-ordinators have come together through a shared vision of what form sustainable tourism in an historic centre such as the Three Cities should take. Part of their objective in establishing the company was to create events and activities that would be based on the arts, cultural and painting tours and other activities that will contribute to bridging the gap between visitors to the area and local residents.
Mr Stephen Cachia, Principal and CEO praised the work carried out on this project as it provides students the opportunity to work in real-life situations and also helps out organisations in the community. He also mentioned the importance of educating students about the value of giving and helping others.
