MCAST-Work-Experience-2018

FITA is collaborating with the MCAST IICT in order to provide students enrolled at level 3 Diploma in ICT, with a work exposure opportunity to more fully understand the IT world.  The level 3 Diploma in ICT at MCAST, covers the basics of computer networks, computer systems, web development, database development, computer graphics and programming.

Further course details can be reviewed at: http://mcast.edu.mt/course/961

Students hosted by FITA are receiving induction sessions on ICT Accessibility and the Foundation’s operations.  They are also being involved in an ongoing ICT project that is compiling accessible resources and venues across the Maltese islands.  This database will be at the core of an upcoming platform that is the result of collaboration between FITA and the Vodafone Malta Foundation.

The exposure started on the 8th of January 2018 and is set to end on the 20th of April 2018.  Six consecutive groups of two students each (12 students in total) are working from FITA’s premises in Blata l-Bajda, for a period of two weeks.

This work experience is an important part of becoming ‘workplace-ready’, by gaining useful skills that cannot be taught in the classroom as well as help establish contacts that students are otherwise not be exposed to.  Students are encouraged to question their tasks, discuss improvements and be goal driven.  By the end of the two weeks, students are in a better position to identify the work sector they want to work in, and thereby choose the study stream they wish to join for the next academic year.

We wish to thank MCAST and the students, for their initiative.  Knowledge about the ethical, business and legal aspects backing the implementation of accessible ICT is something which will benefit these students in their studies and once they join the industry’s workforce.
